Incorporation

The publisher and attorney Heinrich Faßbender founded ARAG Rechtsschutzversicherung in 1935. His goal was to realize a simple but revolutionary business concept: “Every individual should be able to assert his or her rights, not only those who can afford it.” As a family-owned enterprise, ARAG is still in the hands of the Faßbender family today. And the Group also remains loyal to the city of Düsseldorf as the home of its corporate headquarters.

Progressive development

Over the years, the ARAG insurance program has been systematically expanded to include health and composite policies, which are managed by autonomous subsidiaries.

ARAG today

The ARAG Group is the largest family enterprise in the German insurance industry and the leading legal insurer worldwide. The Group currently employs more than 5,000 people. ARAG SE is the operational holding company for the Group as a whole. As such, ARAG SE is responsible for the strategic management of all Group and service companies and for business operations in the legal insurance segment in Germany and 18 other countries.

In the course of its more than 85-year history, the Düsseldorf-based ARAG Group has evolved into a successful and innovative quality insurer. ARAG is the market leader in the legal insurance segment in Italy and Spain and ranks among the leading legal insurance providers in the US and the Netherlands. Furthermore, ARAG insures about 20 million leisure and competitive athletes through ARAG Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG and is thus Germany’s largest sports insurer. ARAG Krankenversicherungs-AG has earned an outstanding reputation as an attractive provider of private full-coverage and supplemental health insurance policies.
