3rd International ARAG Day with a Wide Range of Legal Assistance
Insurer promotes equal opportunities before the law with campaign day
Free initiatives on legal topics for specific target groups remained the focus of the third international ARAG Day. The Düsseldorf-based insurance group organized this event in Germany and at international locations around September 26. The subsidiaries ARAG Krankenversicherungs-AG and ARAG Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG developed their own offerings focusing on health and sports.
In Germany, the range of legal advice services was further expanded for the third ARAG Day. For the first time, low-income families at the “SOS Kinderdorf” (SOS Children’s Village) locations in Essen and Duisburg also had access to free legal advice. The insurance group’s commitment to “Senioren-Rechtshilfe” (Legal Aid for Senior Citizens) in Cologne is completely new. There, committed students from the “Mietrecht (Tenancy Law) Law Clinic Cologne” also provided support on ARAG Day, where experienced lawyers offered legal advice to senior citizens and other interested parties. As in the previous year, external lawyers again advised elderly and needy people at the distribution centers of the food bank “Düsseldorfer Tafel e. V.” in Garath and Hassels, as well as needy families at the “SOS Children’s Village” in Düsseldorf.
ARAG’s international locations also focused on a wide range of activities on ARAG Day – for people who often find it difficult to access justice. ARAG Belgium, together with the organization “Child Focus,” supported children and their families who have been victims of sextortion. ARAG Spain, in cooperation with the non-profit organization “Oncolliga,” aimed to provide people suffering from cancer with information about their rights. ARAG Canada offered anyone interested the opportunity to download a wide variety of legal documents via its new document center; a cooperating law firm was available to answer further questions.
Equal access to justice is explicitly enshrined in the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations (UN). They aim to promote socially, economically, and environmentally sustainable development. “At ARAG, the world’s largest legal insurer with a 90-year history, equal opportunity before the law is deeply rooted. That is why we are once again using ARAG DAY as a specific opportunity to actively promote rights and equal opportunities by providing targeted assistance to people who cannot afford qualified legal advice,” emphasizes Isabel Flaskamp, Vice President for “Access to Justice” at ARAG SE and main organizer of the campaign day.
Separate ARAG Days organized by Group companies outside the legal insurance business
The two ARAG insurance companies operating outside the field of legal insurance organized their own ARAG Day tailored to their respective business areas. Munich-based ARAG Krankenversicherungs-AG again partnered with the non-profit organization DEIN MÜNCHEN to organize a Mental Health Day for young students at a regional secondary school. The composite insurer ARAG Allgemeine Versicherungs-AG is also Germany’s largest sports insurer. In this role, the company teamed up with the Safety in Sports Foundation to offer free, practical webinars for sports clubs. Topics ranged from sports facility safety and fire protection to injury prevention.
