ARAG entered the Spanish legal insurance market in 1977 and founded one of its first international subsidiaries in Barcelona. The company started with selling automotive and motorists’ legal insurance and later expanded its portfolio to include legal insurance for owners of real estate, companies and families.

Growth and development

In 1987, ARAG merged with Spanish market leader “CAP” (La Compania de Asistencia y Proteccion Internacional, S.A.) to form “CAP-ARAG,” thereby enlarging its sales network substantially. “CAP-ARAG” was renamed ARAG Compañía Internacional de Seguros y Reaseguros S.A. in the year 2000. Since 2012, ARAG Spain is a branch of ARAG SE.

ARAG Spain is the leading legal defense company in the insurance sector. It continues to maintain a path of improvement thanks to its rigorous underwriting policy and internal and external cost control. All this without compromising the quality of service, one of the Group's hallmarks.

In 2025, coinciding with ARAG's 90th anniversary in Düsseldorf, efforts will be focused on strengthening the growth of Legal Defense. This initiative reflects the company's founding principle of providing access to justice to all citizens, regardless of their economic status.
