ARAG founded its first international subsidiary in the Netherlands in 1962 – as one of the very first providers in the still-young Dutch legal insurance market. ARAG Netherlands soon became the third-largest company in this segment, with a market share of roughly 17%.
As an independent specialist, ARAG Nederland Algemene Rechtsbijstand Verzekeringmaatschappij N.V. not only sold legal insurance policies but also offered a wide range of services to both policyholders and non-insured individuals. This type of legal insurance products enabled the ARAG subsidiary to optimize its customer service and gain a foothold in new markets.

ARAG works with a network of brokers in the Netherlands, with a strong focus on the private and corporate insurance markets. ARAG offers comprehensive service and advisory support in all of these areas, enabling customers to calculate the financial risks of legal problems as accurately as possible.
ARAG relies primarily on the expertise of its own employees, who have acquired extensive know-how in both legal counseling and legal services. In certain cases, the company engages the services of outside experts.

Today, ARAG Netherlands is one of the Group’s largest international subsidiaries. Since 2009, the company has advertised under the banner of “ARAG. Goed voor elkaar” – which means both “good for everyone” and “in good hands.” This claims stands for services that are available to every policyholder, but also to non-insured individuals, who pay a fee for each service. “ARAG Legal Services” range from information provided on the ARAG homepage to attorney referrals.
