The ARAG Group in Germany

The publisher and attorney Heinrich Faßbender founded ARAG Rechtsschutzversicherung in 1935. His goal was to realize a simple but revolutionary business concept: “Every individual should be able to assert his or her rights, not only those who can afford it.” As a family-owned enterprise, ARAG is still in the hands of the Faßbender family today. And the Group also remains loyal to the city of Düsseldorf as the home of its corporate headquarters.

Over the course of time, the range of insurance offerings has been extended substantially and expanded through the addition of new segments: ARAG Life, ARAG Health and ARAG Composite. As an operational holding company the ARAG SE exercises executive responsibility for the whole Group. Therefore it is responsible for the strategic management of the Group with nearly 3,500 employees groupwide. All other ARAG insurance and service companies, including the international ARAG subsidiaries, are grouped under the umbrella of this holding company.

Today ARAG is the world’s second-largest legal insurer as well as the largest family-managed corporation in the German insurance industry, and thus independent. The Group utilizes its experience gained in 76 years and is constantly seeking new solutions relating to law and security, health and retirement saving. As a legal insurance pioneer, ARAG has set the standards and is internationally successful for almost 50 years. The company is active in 14 countries - including the USA. ARAG is market leader in Italy, Spain and Slovenia. In the US and the Netherlands, it is among the leading legal insurance providers. ARAG is also Europe’s largest sport insurer – covering around 21 million leisure and competitive athletes.
